I don't know about airline rules (or Greek law about carrying knives) but you can get 'fake' sgian dubhs with blunt 'blades' for exactly this reason.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

spotted this thread (old though!) about carrying knives in Greece

don't know about carrying in hold luggage though - you'd have to check with whichever airline you're using.

a google for safety sgian dhu produces loads of results.
You can get them including bottle openers, decorative and useful
http://www.rainnea.com/safety-sgian-dubhs.htm at the expensive end of the market. Or about a tenner on ebay.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
so the question here is are you allowed to take these overseas with you as long as they are in your suitcase in hold,do they scan the case and say hold on that looks like a knife lets take this further,i was gonna buy a fake one but my mother today from a indoor market was selling these things but had clued the knife into its holder i wonder if this would still be a problem or if this be ok as its clued so cant be used anyone know?
What the worst that could happen they take it off me?Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
Hi,
Why don't you just ring your airline & ask they are the only ones who can say for certain.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
You can carry a knife (Scottish or otherwise!) in your suitcase, that's not a problem. As someone else pointed out, when you actually wear it you may need to be careful with the law about carrying knives in the place you're going to.
When my OH has flown in his kilt outfit he has worn a bottle opener sgian dubh instead of the real one. Security still tried to confiscate it at first :rotfl: Pretty much any shop that sells real ones will sell dummy ones too. Dummy ones are less likely to get you in trouble with the police too, but I'm told that's not the point!0
