Hope this ok to post here. My DD1's BF is joining up at the end of the year. They have been together for a year [she is 17 & he is 23] She is worried he will be posted away as soon as basic training is completed. How likely is this? He seems to think there is a choice of what he can do once BT is finished, humanitarian work, Germany etc. Also cos of his regiment, is he always going to be posted to a war zone. Sorry if these questions seem silly x
DD1 is supporting him fully [she knew from day 1 of their relationship that he was going to join up] but understandably very concerned.

he will be able to express a preference regards posting but not pick and choose. He will serve a tour of afghan at some point.Life as an army wag can be tough, but rewarding if your daughter wants to stick with him0

Have you looked around ARRSE? They should be able to help with the questions about after basic training.
I have no idea how good it is, but remember hearing about Army Wags, might be worth a look as well.
Beware with ARRSE (British Army Rumour Service btw...nothing dodgy lol), their sense of humour is...different to say the least lol. What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -
I've recently just married a royal engineer from my understanding of it all theres always lots to get your head around! When hes put at his first posting he will find out, that regiment may have just been on tour then it will be another 2 years till he'll have to do one but they may be due on tour and he'd have to go straight away all depends on where hes posted. My husbands due back in afghan sept 12 and his last tour finished sept 2010. We have been married 8 months and in that time actually only seen each other about half of that cos of courses, exercises etc was only use to seeing him weekends before then so even that extra time is precious! It has its ups and downs but its all worthwhile when we are together and everytime he comes back from exercises, tour it feels like i'm falling in love with him all over again!0

Hi.
I've been with my RE hubby for 5 years now and he is due to go on his FIRST operational tour to Afghan in March - he will have been in the army over 11 years by then. I think he's been lucky to have got this far without a tour - he doesn't agree :rotfl:.
Life is different and can be very tough and demanding sometimes, but like someone else mentioned when they are away - even when it's just courses/exercises etc you do feel like you are falling in love with them all over again!
It all depends on his trade too. Like mentioned - you can put preferences of where you want to get posted to, but my husband has never been given any of his preferences. His first posting after basic was Germany for 5 years, then Northern Ireland where he served two postings so completed nearly another 5 years there and now he is on his 4th posting to Kent (which is home for me).
He will be put on trade courses, so this will also have an effect on whether he will go on tour or not. That's how come my hubby never went before.
Another couple of sites she could chat on and get info from are:

www.forcesgirls.co.uk
both are full of lovely ladies in the same boat.0
