Job offer retracted

  • I don't get it. If you were found not guilty then in the eyes of the law, you did not do anything wrong. Why do charges stay on your record? That's appalling!

No I was found guilty but admonished simply meant that's an end to it, as in there eyes it was not a serious assault and I'm of good character no punishment was given. It was a very weak case against me, I was simply defending myself but low and behold I got pooped on :-(

As I said I did not assault anyone and as you don't know the facts then your comments are short sighted and immature! Feel free to post again but that's my final word.

So you said. But it happens that a court has disagreed with you and so in the eyes of the law, you did assault someone. You seem to think that because it was admonishment and not six years down the local nick, that it isn't serious. And it is entirely possible that this is the root cause of your problem. Social care employers are not going to simply say that a conviction rules out employment with them - but your approach to it certainly may. You have a relatively recent conviction, and with any conviction on your record what an employer is going to be looking for is an acknowledgement of wrongdoing, the lessons you have learned and some evidence that you have grown from the experience. What you appear to be offering is "I din't do it, it isn't all that serious anyway, and it's all a miscarriage of justice". The bloke who got six years down the local nick also says the same thing! Believe me - there are few guilty people in prison too. I know. Because they said so.
  • You could ask them why they retracted the offer when they had previously employed you through an agency. Also I know lots of people who have worked in social care with very serious charges against them including assaults, thefts, benefit fraud, and even armed robbery where the person served 10 years in prison. This person is now in a senior regional role for a leading organization.
Perhaps try looking at a different area of social care such as working with the homeless/drug users where they do employ a lot of ex offenders.
The people who had offences usually wrote covering letters with their application forms saying what they had learned from the situation and what they would do differently now etc and how they had moved on.

You are fixated on the fact that you were admonished and seem to ignore the massive elephant in the room: you were found GUILTY.

So, in the eyes of an employer (and anyone else for that matter), you have a recent criminal conviction for assault. I'm afraid you will need to alter your expectations accordingly.
