Boots refund policy

Hi everyone, I'm new so bear with me!
Basically my friend bought me some shower gel from Boots, which I am allergic to. It was quite expensive so I was wondering if I could return it and either get store credit or exchange it for something else. The main reason why I'm unsure about returning it is that it doesn't have a seal on it or anything, so there is no way for them to know if I've used it (except that the bottle is full). Also, I have no receipt and I don't really want to ask my friend for it as I don't want to embarrass her as she would feel bad for not remembering that I am allergic!
I have looked on the Boots website but I can only find their returns policy for items bought online, and it doesn't mention toiletries specifically.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
