A desktop pc ....

Despite having a laptop which is still in reasonably good condition (just needs a good reformat - although that may not fix the DVD-RW drive), I was tempted by an ad I caught a glimpse of on TV for a £199 desktop. I've since found out that it was from PC World and according to this thread:

... it doesn't sound too good. But still I'd be tempted if I could get the right desktop at the right price. So has anybody seen any good deals they would recommend?
(If not I'll be needing an external hard drive and a new DVD-RW drive .... )

I would seriously avoid that thread. The machines on their are cheap but are so far gone, they represent poor value.
Depending on your budget, get any of these machines which users have marked as 5 stars:

Trust me, the die-hard techies that buy from websites such as these and measure price/performance ratio every day to determine whether they've got good value on a PC is a much better indication to go buy.
