Complaining to IKEA

i was wondering if it is worth complaining to IKEA, and if i would get a reply etc because i have had so much bad experience with this company, i dont know where to start and i will have to write a letter to the store manager.

so is it worth it? anyone else had bad experience with IKEA and did you complain, what were the results?

EDIT-

We recently bought a very large display unit from IKEA, put it in the boot very carefully and when we opened it starting from the top, glass started to drop onto the floor and there was so much of it, at that time we had a lot of little children in our house for which it was very dangerous:mad: and we had no hoover because it stopped working :-O so that caused a lot of trouble, we couldnt borrow 1 from anyone as neighbours werent home so had to use a broom to clean the floor, then the next day i got a splinter in my foot because of what had happened and it took me 2 days to get it out, i tried everything ice, tweezers, needle, (even sellotape) i couldnt go out or walk...
On the same day we bought a sofabed from the bargain thing they have, it wasnt in box or anything, it was all fixed, 2 people sat on it and it broke from the bottom, 2 people were my brother and my dad who dont even weigh that much, and it was a DOUBLE sofabed, the quality of this item was so poor that it broke instantly, so next day parents went back to exchange these 2 items and was told that they cant return the sofabed because it was our fault  ...so we bought another display unit (which was in box)...there was no car available at home so there was no person in the family that could have picked up the display unit from IKEA, so my mother asked if they could keep it til the next day because we were having problems arranging pick-up, but they refused to do so:mad: ...as my dad is very ill he is the only 1 with the car, so he had to go to IKEA (which is 8 miles from where we live  to pick up the display unit, so my questions are

why couldnt they replace the sofabed?
why was it my fault that it was made of poor quality?
why couldnt they just put the display unit somwhere for a couple of hours?

I complained to Ikea about the non availabilty of some Christmas wrapping paper, that showed on their website as being available at my local store Ashton. After 3 visits to the store I wrote to the Manager. I received a reply that did not address my complaints and was given half a page of how they try to help the customer etc, etc and that he would contact the department that dealt with the internet. I then wrote to the registered office in London about 3 weeks ago and have not received a reply.

Funnily enough the wrapping paper has continued to show in stock at Ashton for the last 4 weeks. Need I say more.

The best of luck with any correspondence.

We had some success with complaining to Ikea...We bought a kitchen and had a few probs - wrong door delivered, incorrect installation quote etc. We called Cust Servs who gave us an address to write to... After 8 weeks or so (almost forgotten about it), someone phoned us back, massive apology for the problems and sent us a £25 voucher.

    the address we used was:

    ikea limited
    customer services centre
    po box 96
    rotherham

  • We too have had success in complaining to Ikea. We bought one of their cheap coloured striped rag-rugs to put below my daughter's mirror (she's always dropping her make-up) just after having new carpet fitted in her bedroom. About 6 months later on moving the rug to hoover underneath one day, we noticed that the dye from a couple of the stripes had transferred to the carpet.

We took photos and took the rug back to Ikea (Nottingham). The woman we initially spoke to kept in contact with us regularly, by phone and e-mail to let us know what was happening. Ikea have been very apologetic and good about the whole thing and have now agreed to have her carpet replaced at their expense - approx £260. Apparently the dye does transfer from some of these rugs, but they said they were at fault for not having a sign on display to this effect.

So, I would say go for it.

A few years ago now we got some units, nearly every panel had little dents in them, you wouldn't notice it unless you were assembling them or up close.
I found this unacceptable as these were brand new, Ikea sent more which were even worse.
I phoned a few times to explain and complain and eventually got the choice of half our money back and keep them or return the lot with full refund. I opted for the first option.

    Don't give up

What's the actual problem? If its something like unavailability of christmas wrapping paper, dont expect a serious reply - I'm sure they have slightly more pressing issues to deal with. If its something like the dye problem, or dents in wardrobes, then you can expect to get some help from them.

I had some success with a foam mattress that had seriously collapsed and flattened out. They agreed to a full refund about 14 months after the date of purchase with only a credit card bill as evidence as I had long since lost the purchase receipt.

I got so fed up with the company that i ended up writing to the IKEA president in sweden - it was just a general complaint so i didn't want any refund etc. but i did get an apologetic reply from him - so at least it got through - maybe start there with a copy of complaint to store manager (surely he'll pull out all the stops to get your prob fixed knowing the company president is informed?)
