Grants for A SIA License.

Hi All,
I am currently claim JSA and have been since April 2011 after being made redundant.
I have a good family friend in the security business that can guarantee
me at least 20 hours work a week. but I would need my basic SIA license.
Is there any government grants or external grants that would be able to pay for this license to get me back into work? I did try talking to the advisor in the Job centre but she didn't seem to know/understand.
Any help is brilliant. Thank You.

You need to do the exam first, before you can apply for the licence. I believe it is possible to get the job centre to pay for the course/exam (my BIL has had a tentative "yes" from the job centre re this) but I don't think they'll pay for the licence itself.0

I did think it would be something like that. Thanks0

They dont know about funding because it is all being announced at the moment who will be delivering training and what will be available, SIA is usually within the training available for those on benefits but it is not paid by JCP, it is ESF funding claimed by the training provider.0

The job centre stopped funding the course about two months ago, in my area anyway. My boyfriend was on the last course.
I think it must depend which area you're in. And how persistent you are, my BIL pestered the living daylights out of the job centre before they finally agreed to it.0 -
There is a fund called 'Rapid Response' that the JC have for people who have been made redundant. Ask the JC specifically about Rapid Response. I was told about it, but 2 other friends who were made redundant at the same time as me and signed on werent.0

DWP turned down 12,347 requests for SIA funding last month.0

This is why people working in the security sector have been relatively protected from the high unemployment rates in the economy as a whole, because many people can't afford to get qualified & licenced. They can't apply for security jobs so these vacancies are not being flooded with the same number of applicants that many other jobs are. My OH works in security and he's had no trouble finding work over the last few years.0 -
Contact you local FE college as the ESF funding is now starting to filter through for this type of training.0
