My parents had the zenia's, providing you stood in one room everything was alright. If you moved to another room, things got a bit dodgy. We blamed the thick walls. In the end I upgraded them to some Panasonic with a seperate base station, put the base station in the loft and handsets in various rooms. My parents can now move freely around the home whilst talking on their handsets, so no problems to toddle off to the kitchen and make a cup of tea mid conversation anymoreIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

Thanks everyone. I found mention of xd1500 and some good reviews on the net
http://www.reevoo.com/reviews/mpn/bt/xd1500
then ended up buying a four-handset pack of them from ebay for £35 plus £7.50 postage, but there's also a two handset pack and a three handset pack available - search for "xd1500" on ebay.co.uk
Lord_Gardener, the link you gave seems to be the same 4-pack that I got from ebay, but Currys site has them for £99.
They have the following features:
50 NAME AND NUMBER MEMORY
18 MINUTES RECORD TIME
CALLER ID/DISPLAY COMPATIBLE
300 M RANGE
UP TO 5 HANDSETS
GAP COMPATIBLE
INTERNAL CALL TRANSFER
3 WAY CALLING
HANDS-FREE/SPEAKERPHONE
SECRECY
INTERNAL HANDSET TO HANDSET CALLING
KEYPAD LOCK
CONTENTS OF QUAD-PACK PLAIN BOX:
1 XD 1500 ANSWER MACHINE BASE UNIT
4 XD 1500 HANDSETS
3 ADDTIONAL CHARGERS
4 POWER ADAPTORS
ONE TELEPHONE CORD
8 AAA RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
paper copy of user manual0 -
Thanks for the Dect replies. I need a new phone too. Probably need 20 handsets cos the kids keep leaving them around where I can't find them. I bought a cheap one last time and they were useless really. Had to ram the earpiece in my ear to hear anything. The last number redial never worked.... so I think a 2 or 3 handset BT set will do.....?NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

My vote goes to the Panasonics, we had the cheap BT ones before and they were ok. but my needs have out grown the basic model, I needed speaker phone features and longer range.
I spoke with my bro and best mate who both use the Panasonics and they haven't said a bad thing about them. BTW which magazines also rate the Panasonic highly too, in both DECT phone tests last year. They all came out near the top. The only gripe I have about them is the cost, they are expensive compared to other brands on the market if brought from a high street shop ( I paid £80 for a 3 phone set with answer machine from John Lewis 2 months ago) but I personally think they are worth the extra cost. When I was shopping around currys or dixons were offering a BT set of 3 with answer phone with speaker feature for £40 (half price deal) but I still opted for the Panasonic.
Oh and these are really easy to use too without needing the manual and they are pretty loud too, both speaker and normal mode!

The BT ones I mentioned also have hands-free (speakerphone) facility.
I've just received the two orders of 4 phone packs from ebay, and have just put them on charge. Seem OK so far. The speakerphone facility seems loud enough. I'll have a better idea of how they perform tomorrow after the 24 hour first recharge.
You can make internal calls between two handsets even while a third is engaged in an external call. You can also transfer an external call to another handset, and bring in a second handset to make a 3 way conversation (1 external connection with two handsets).
Has a "phone book" listing up to 50 names and numbers. Names can be up to 12 characters long. Each handset has its own list. Each entry can be assigned one of 10 different ringtones.
Has a "redial list" containing the last 10 dialled numbers - you scroll through them and choose one and dial it directly. Can copy an entry to the "phone book".
Has a "calls list" containing the last 40 calls received including phone number and date and time of call, and whether the call was answered or not. The list is shared between all handsets. If the number is in the "phone book" the display shows the number and the name. Can scroll the list and dial directly from it. Can copy an entry to the "phone book".
Can remove entries from the lists.
Answering machine is in the base station. Can record own outgoing message, and retrieve messages remotely. Base station has an alarm clock.0 -

Have to say, do you want a good 'phone or a cheap one ?.
I have just trawled thru' hundreds of adverts and reviews about DECT 'phones and at the end of it I wasn't really much wiser than when I started!
In the end I bought a BT Synergy 4100 - AND - I have to say I am very pleased with it. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a conventional "ring-ring" ring tone. It comes with all the extras you mentioned and you can get them with an answering machine.0 -
Am thinking of getting the Panasonic (code 5521955) from Argos £54.97 for a triple pack. Does anyone know if this is a decent phone?0
