Joint mortgage query

Applied for a joint mortgage with my wife with First Direct, i bank with them.

They never included her wages as she is on maternity leave however my wages were enough & had it approved in principal.

Anyway got a phone call about 30 mins later from them as they forgot to read out some data protection jargon but on the end of the call the guy said that they may have to do a credit check on my wife as she doesn't bank with them.

It turns out she has an old debt with Scottish Power but she has been paying it back for the last 18 months.

Question is if it turns out she has bad credit could i just ask them to process it in my name only or would i have to try another lender?
