Do i have to accept a cheque for my salary

Hello,
My Boss pays my salary each month by cheque, ive asked him to set up a bank transfer but the guy who actually owns the company (its a franchise) has said he isnt interested.
the problem im having with this is that my bank account is overdrawn and paying it in there not only means that i lose a portion of my cheque through "overdraft fees" "paid item fees" (25 quid for 50pence in one of them) but it also takes nearly 10 days to go through.
i could get a basic account at barclays (my companies bank) and then i think it only takes a few days but i would much rather it be paid by bank transfer into my wifes bank account, or by cash, or if the cheque was written out to be cashed and i could take it to the barclays bank (where the account is sitting with 80grand in it; shh i didnt see those bank statements) and they would cash it for free or at least cheaper than the current method wich is to cash it at one of those nasty cheque cashing shops for 4.99%
also sometimes my bos is late with the cheques, it clearly states in my contract that i am to be paid by cheque on the 18th of each month, there have been times when its been upto 5 days late for the staff (i tend to threaten breach of contract and section 13 of the employments rights act and he pays mine without seeing the accountants declaration of the amount i am due, even though it doesnt change from month to month)
is there a way to write out a cheque to cash? whats the best way if not to get a cheque cashed or paid into an account and do i have to accept a cheque at all?
thanks in advance for your time

If he pays by cheque then that's how you get paid. The employer usually chooses method of payment, in bank, cash or cheque also not all employers will pay by transfer into a third party account either.0

They can do what they like in the way that they pay you.
If this is happening every month try doing your budget in the mind set that you get your salary on say 25th of each month and budget accordingly.
I dont see why they cant use a bank transfer to be honest, its cheaper and easier for them.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I dont know, I have just started a new job and we will be getting paid by cheque for a few months, until we get a payroll system.
Why is it taking you ten days to clear a cheque though?0 -
your overdraft is not your boss's problem; open a new accountDebt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Cheques don't take 10 days to clear."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Bank charging £25 for lodging a wages cheque?
Takes 10 days to clear a cheque?
£80,000 in one bank yet has a big overdraft in another mounting up bank charges?
Further explanation needed I would have thought.0 -

I see. It was the "my companies" bit the threw me. I think what OP meant was the company OP worked.
Still all a bit strange.
First law of business is to pay your staff on time and if you do not do not expect to be in business very long.
But two wrongs do not make a right and sneaking a look at confidential information is a disciplinary offence if not a sackable one and a slow pay cheque will not be much of a defense..0
