Buying overseas

Thanks in advance, this is my virgin post on this site.

I am currently looking at buying a house in France with my wife (she is French) as we have aspirations to live there when we finally hang up our work shoes.

At the moment it is an investment plan (buy to let either perm or holiday). We have a substantial deposit but would still require a small mortgage to cover the final portion + any renovation etc.

My question regard getting my "substantial deposit + any mortgage" converted to Euros. Now i am talking to a company that specialise in overseas mortgages for exactly our predicament, and I’m sure they will have some system or sister company to help make this conversion.

However, as i have never done this before i have no idea if i am being taken to the cleaner’s or not. A wise man once told me that "knowledge is power." So far he has not been wrong.....

So does anyone here have any advice on this? Thanks again for reading / posting

Regards

Someone will answer who knows better things than me I'm sure - but my OH and I were looking at this and the universal advice has been to mortgage the english property and use the money to fund the french one in full.
