Just thought I'd post my brother's recent experiences as advice for others.
My brother worked freelance for 3 years but 3 days a week for a packshot photographic company (this is where you take shot after shot of eg handbags for a big department store website, not very exciting but hey ho!). In January this year they got rid of their freelance photographers and he left.
2 months ago he got a new packshot job but in a hard to get part of London and 2 days a week. 1 shift was starting at 6am and the other normal working hours - well 2pm until 9 or 10pm but he accepted this. Now he's said that as people are on holiday he's covering their shifts but has said that already the people are much nicer than in the other company (who tended to be cliquey) and he thinks this is a company he'd like to stay in.
Hey - the shifts aren't the best but he can see scope for staying and improving. Above all, his new employers are really pleased with him and full of praise which the old company wasn't really doing a lot of.
So, all in all he thinks this is a good turn of events.
Just wanted to put this out there to mention to people that *there is* hope, there are nice employers, employees/colleagues and to keep on plugging away and applying!
Good luck all.
