Mrs

Littlewoods catalogue is causing problems. My daughter ordered a bed and clothing from my catalogue, and was paying every month. She got into difficulties so I contacted Littlewoods who said it can be transferred to her so that I was not responsible for that debt. They then sent me some forms to fill out and for both of us to sign. This we did, and sent them back. That was the last I heard of it. Till today. I had a phone call today from a debt collector that there was a debt from Littlewoods of over £300 and they wanted payment.
It seems as though Littlewoods have been putting a £12 charge on the account for nonpayment, for over a year. They have never written to me to inform me of this, no phone call, or email.
They just sent it to the debt collection agency.
What can we do ?
Does anyone have any idea of how to sort this ? I am disabled and live on Income Support, and my daughter isn't on a massive wage (we live in Cornwall - the lowest pay in the country ! ).

How long ago did you sign these forms to put the debt in her name?
Have they been chasing daughter since?
Has she been paying something towards the debt (a token payment at least?)

Do you live together? did the DCA ask for you or your daughter with regards to the debt?

Has your daughter been paying something towards the amount owing since sending off the forms and taking over the account?
If you had it changed into her name then you wouldn`t of been recieving correspondence so obviously they didnt change it over if your now hearing from them.
If payments are missed they do add on service charges it is in the terms and conditions.
You orr daughter should also of been recieving monthly statements and bill reminders regarding the outstanding balance if a payment hasn`t been paid.

We have not hears from Littlewoods at all. They have not contacted my daughter at all.
The last email I had from them said that they tried contacting us 3 times on a number that was not active. It would have been unobtainable. They had the home phone number, but chose not to use it, they have my email, but did not use that either. No mail from them, apart from statements for an account which as far as I was concerned was clear, and therefore did not open. No letter from them of impending action, nothing.
They did not contact her after sending off the forms, to arrange a payment plan.
Surely they should have sent a letter, and/or phoned me on the home phone to inform me of the problem.
They say they did not get an answer, but the debt collector had no problem phoning me on the home phone, even if I am not in I have an answering machine, which is what was done by the debt collector.

I imagine if you open the statements you will see that the balance and the £12 charges are shown on them. There may also be notification that with your statements that because your accounts was in arrears that a default notice would be issued and your debt passed to a debt collector etc.

If statements were coming to you then the account/debt wasn't put into your daughter's name for whatever reason. I would think the best thing at this stage is for you/your daughter to work out how much you can afford to repay each month and make a written offer to the debt collector and ask if they will freeze interest & charges on the account.

Hi Sandra21,

We're sorry to hear you have been having problems with your account. Account transfers are usually straight forward and this situation you are experiencing is certainly unusual especially if you and your daughter had no problems with the transfer of accounts forms.

Normally, as soon as we receive them back from both parties we can transfer the accounts without any problems.

If you would like us to look into this matter for you please email us with your account details to help@littlewoods.co.uk and we'd be happy to assist you in any way we can.

Hope this helps
