Making my credit file right - but Avon won't reply!!!

Hi

Any advice most welcome....

I've been going through my credit file and i came across a £4 debt which i apparently owe Avon. It says i default back in 2006. Now as far as im concerned i owe Avon nothing. Ive never heard of any debt!!! Im really annoyed becuase its having an effect on my credit score.

I have called Avon countless times and all they say is i have to ring another number. I call that and get put through to a call centre in India where they can't understand what i'm talking about and they end up handing up!
I've written to Avon 6 times to ask them if they can just let me pay the £4 and can they ammend my file but they never reply.

What else can i do?? I'm out of ideas and getting really frustated!

xx

  • Google Avon, write to their head office enclosing all relevant details. That way you will be dealt with by a native English speaker!

I'd be surprised if they removed a default.

A default for a measily £4!!! What an absolute joke.. No advice, but just wanted to say how ridiculous it is...

    Hi

Did you ever have an avon account at all? Buy anything from them?

The letters you sent - was this recorded deliv? If its not your debt then I don't think offering to pay will help - they'll probably let you pay but it wouldn't get the default removed. I would be writing to them saying you've noticed this entry on your credit file, you dispute the debt or the fact that you ever owed them any money and require the entry be removed from your credit file or evidence of the debt provided (and send it recorded).

You could use some of the wording from this letter (although obviously you'll need to change the start to refer to the credit file and not a letter).

    Hi,

Here's the number for the Avon Sales Leader Line - they're based in the UK, and are super-helpful. Ask to be put through to someone in Credit control and they should be able to help you. Not sure what they can do about removing the entry, but they should let you pay it off if that's what you want to do!

Hope this helps, if not let me know & I'll try & find out some more info for you x
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

    Hi

I've rung that number but alas they give me another number and its for a call centre in India where they either have no idea what im saying or they just cut me off becuase they don't know how to help.

All the letters i've written have been recored but im not getting a response. I know they are getting them but what am i suppose to do, i can't force them to reply its getting very very frustrating!

I did have an account with them years ago but as far as i was concerned it had been closed and i owed nothing. If i owed £4 i would have paid it!

I'm thinking maybe i should contact the finacial ombudsman, see if they can get them to responed to me??

    Hi trinity

Sorry I didn't put the link I mentioned in the last post - it was to this letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11570893&postcount=2

If you have sent letters similar to that and had no response then I would send one headed up as a formal complaint and saying that if they do not respond to you then you will be making a complaint to the FOS.

  • Iv also got derogetory statements on my credit report and am going through the same thing as you but I work for a company that deals with finance and am aware of all the procedures that a company that gives finance has to go by. All you need to do is log a complaint send it recorded delivery and keep proof give 3 days for them to resolve your complaint if it isnt dealt with type financial services ombudsman into google and make your complaint to them. For every complaint made to them will cost the company £500 this should help make them work a little faster for you hope this helps.
