Closure date on Job Roles

Hi all - have applied for a job role for a large household name multi national.
The role directly mirrors my rather unique skills, experience, salary and includes progression into an area I have wanted to move into for ages……. so I am very very keen. The role is a very good match and as such I was expecting a look in at least!
Compounded by the fact it’s the only decent job in my area for ages (I have been applying for every job going from checkout to street cleaners)
I applied through Reed which sent me to the company site where you filled an application (very basic - name/address) and attached the CV. No facility for a covering letter.
I applied for the role on the first day it came out and Reed shows 17 people so far went through them to apply. Which has remained the same for the last 6 days.
Here's my question… the role closure date is still another two weeks away and I had my application in with them for a week already.
Would they contact you before the closure date if they think you were a good candidate? or do they close it then look at everyone in the pool of applicants?
As mad as it sounds I am really keen so need to know if they haven't contacted me by now they are not going to! As I am checking my phone/email compulsively to see if I have had a response for DAYS its driving me nuts.
(should mention I have been made redundant and presently looking for work while working out notice)

I know it can be maddening but most companies will wait until the application process has finished so a) they can sift for the cream of the crop and b) give everyone a fair chance to apply. Even then it may take 1-2 weeks to come back to you depending on how many people have applied - if it's an agency, they often have issues getting the client to see the CVs so sometimes it can take a bit longer too.
I would, if you can still add stuff to the application, say that you are available for work at no notice. This is really key as it's a great selling point!
Best of luck!
PS do keep on top of Reed after a fortnight of not hearing anything as they truly are one of the worst at coming back to people.0 -

Unlikely - the agency will wait til the closing date in most cases then present a long-list of candidates who meet essential criiteria to the employer to shortlist, depending on the role - the agency might be more active in shortlisting and even interviewing for more junior roles. But generally I wouldn't expect to hear anything until after the closing date.0 -
I know it's frustrating but wait until the closure date. They may have looked and short listed you already but until the date closes they probably won't start contacting candidates0

Yay! that’s what I wanted to hear

I still have hope then.
So I will just cool my heels and wait until after the closure date before going all obsessive on my phone and email.
Thank you for the replies people you really helped my low mood.
(got rejections from Asda, M and S and macciedees today… so I needed the lift)
Apparently being over qualified is just a much of a issue as being under qualified. So I cant even get NMW to get by on rather than have to claim JSA when I finish up here.
As the last interviewer said (supermarket checkout role) *with her eyebrow arched* Really? You? Checkout? Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0
