Have you been trying any of the preventative exercises to keep the joint mobile? See here http://www.drfoot.co.uk/Exercises_For_Bunions.htm for more details. I do know someone who had the beginnings of a bunion and tried this and it really worked for her. And it's not overly intrusive so if it doesn't work, nothing lost

Ooooh- thanks so much for this! I'd been told "nothing anyone can do" and then "surgery wont have a 100% sucess rate" by a doctor I saw yesterday, I'm grateful to anything that can help though it has a disclaimer at the end which reads "Exercises will NEVER be able to correct the position of the toe due to the adaption of bone that has gone on for many years as the bunion developed, but they are important to keep the toe flexible and mobile." so I'm hoping they can do something as they are not full blown-toe-on-side-of-foot bunions yet, they just have a big round bone thing added to the side of my foot with toe near but not yet covering the second toe.

As well as the exercises, I was told to wiggle my toes first thing in the morning to try and keep them supple and mobile.

My friend now has perfect feet but I have to be honest and say that I'm not sure how early stage it was caught, except that she was definitely told she was developing a bunion at the time. Don't forget to do it on both feet even if you only have symptoms on one :) and hope it helps!

Thanks- I will be carrying out the exercises- been resaerching more and full recovery after having surgery can take as much as a year and definetly more then a few months! I think anything is better then having my feet chopped open especially after the doctor told me they don't even have a full sucess rate! Am awaiting the podiatrist appointment.
