Anybody dealt with Zopa?

Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Hi people.

Firstly hello! This is my first post on the forum and i'm interested to see the sort of response I get :)

Basically, i'm in the market for a loan. I took out a loan with Halifax about 2 years ago over 4 years, but i'm paying horrendous interest on it. We also owe a relation some money, and although we've paid half of it back, since moving into our first house together last November, we've not been able to pay her back like we thought we would.

So, the old cliche', we're looking to 'consolidate' (not really consolidation, but you know what I mean!). We've been looking around at loans online, and have been approved for several that would cover what we need to settle the loan/relation, but the monthly payments have been so high. So, my other half stumbled across 'Zopa'. We popped in the necessary info, we only want to borrow £2,200, and we were approved, at nearly £20 a month less than the main providers over the same term (5 years), and only something like £2 more p/m than what we're paying for less than half I borrowed from Halifax.

I'm very cautious about things being too good to be true, so I read the terms and conditions from top to bottom to make sure it was all kosha, and it seemed fine. But despite all the reviews and awards that praise them up, i've not been able to find anybody who has first hand experience, or know of anybody that can pass on their experiences.

So here I am. Just trying to find out if anybody has used the services: I know where the money comes from, how it works etc, I just need to find somebody who has borrowed 'from' Zopa.

Thanks for reading, look forward to your replies!

Dan :)

There are some people who have lent with zopa here - it is peer-to-peer lending, so like a dating agency for cash and borrowers, and responses have been broadly positive. Also in a similar market is ratesetter.com.

i have never used them but i do not hear bad stories about them..and you do not find them slagged off on here often..just keep your eyes wide open.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
