calls from random companies

So, I'm sure I'm not alone in this but recently I have been recieving about ten calls a day from different companies all desperate to tell me about the ''new gov legislation that will write off up to 70% of all my debts'' I pretty much cut them off every time they call and say not interested, to which many of them are actually really rude! In the last few days I have stopped answering all calls that I dont know, on the basis that if its a legit call they will leave me a message? on monday I had twenty calls! from 7 different numbers!
What is this legislation they are all going on about, because i figure if it was a genuine solution for me, my DMP people would have suggested it? and more importantly does anyone have any ideas how to stop them calling me, besides changing my number!

Most likely trying to flog you an IVA.
It is a form of formal insolvency, and pretty much as bad for your credit record as full bankruptcy would be.
"Recent government legislation"?
Yeah? Right? Actually 1986. :rotfl::rotfl:
Ignore them, sign up to the telephone preference service, and tell any new caller to remove you from their database if you do happen to pick it up.

thanks, yeah I assumed it probably was an IVA? which I couldnt do anyway as I don't owe 15K and only have (theoretically, not this month!) £50 spare! will look into tps? see if I can do it on mobile! assuming I can't! A friend has suggested I set up my voicemail to say dont accept advertising calls etc, if you arent leave a message and i will call you back type thing? most of the time I'm very polite to them, except when they are rude... like the lady who called me about twenty mins ago... I answered because the same number had called me 11 times today, she actually shouted at me when I said I wasnt interested and it wasnt for me... pfh! she must have been having a worse day than me! :-)total debt: £8103

I got a call a few months back from a company wanting to help me out with my debt problems - and they were phoning due to "an application you have made". I had no idea how they got my number so I sent them a huge complaint about their phonecall and their subsequent letter (I asked them to write to me) and I demanded they told me how they got my details.
Turns out that I had applied for a "bad credit" credit card and they had passed all my details on to this company.
So if you've applied for any form of credit and possibly been declined then it could be this...0 -
yeah, it did all seem to start last year when I looked at consolidation and at the credit builder cards, very frustrating! I'm just going back to not answering numbers I don't know! saves the conversations lol!total debt: £8103

i've been getting these calls as well, i just slam the phone down on the after telling them to 'do one'....the only way to stop the calls is to contact bt and they can put you on a 'call filtering' service which blocks these cold calls, tho it takes about 2 months to kick in0
