Morning,
After some stories of any one who suffers from tennis elbow!
My consultant seems to think this is what i am suffering from, I have pain in elbow which runs down forearm and quite severe pain in wrist. Made worse when driving, lifting etc....
Just wondered if anyone else suffers from this and to what level of incapacity you suffer with it from?

I've not had tennis elbow but I did have golfers' elbow which is very similar! I went to the doctor as I was worried that finding it difficult to lift/carry things would get worse and be very incapacitating. I must admit to thinking it may have been something arthritic.
He told me it would probably take up to 6 months to go. He offered pain killers and Ibuprofen (including gel). Strangely enough when I knew it wasn't more serious it took a weight off my mind and made me feel a bit better instantly. It probably took about 3 months to go and now I'm fine!!0 -
Thats good to know you are fully resolved.
I am waiting to have steroid injections in elbow! Then been told i have to completely rest arm for 4-6 weeks
Not going to be easy as its my right arm.
Would just love to know why i have this all of a sudden.:silenced:0 -
I had it about 8 years ago. Also my right arm. I dont know how mine started either - GP said a minor injury could have started it.
I struggled for about 2 months, on gel and pain killers, no progress. GP then referred me for physio, I went once a week for another 2 months, still no real improvement and it was getting to the point where I was in agony at work.
It got so bad that I was told to completely rest it for a month, and then I had a steroid injection as a last resort. The first two days after the injection it was even worse. Then woke up on day 4 and it was much better. After a couple of weeks it was fine.
Every now and then I get a bit of a twinge from it, but that's all.
I hope the injection works for you - it was definitely worth it for me.
Good luck0 -
I have this in acute recurrent form , it hurts I take strong anti- inflammatories pain goes ,months maybe years later it all happens again. What this means work wise if that I need to have a special egonomic keyboard and a boss wh understands the nature of the beast. I had 6 months of work with my first flare up & since I have been aware of the situation no more than 2 weeks at a time - normally taking the tablets at first sign means a bit of discomfort for a few days nothing more. I have never been referred for steroid injections.proud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

Unfortunately i work for the emergency services, and driving and lifting are a major part of my role. After speaking with a WPC at an incident last week she said if i had an accident because i wasn't in full control of ambulance I.E driving with an arm brace on, it would be my fault (as I had guessed). So have reluctantly now stopped work till treatment complete. I have tried and tried to keep going but fear it isnt worth the consequences if anything goes wrong!! Now stuck in a !!!!py little town with only my left hand to do use :rotfl::silenced:0

In 2002 I moved into my present flat, and had two weeks grace to re-decorate, before all my stuff came, so...I decorated every room myself...floors, wall and ceilings!!! The results, for all my troubles....apart from saving loads of £s aand covering over all the previous tenant's hideous decor.....tennis elbow, golfers' elbow ANDcarpal tunnel syndrome, in BOTH arms. I was referred to a consultant by my GP.....who initially perscribe me ibuprofen... who gave me arm splints to wear at night, but they became too uncomfortable to wear..and didn't do anything to relieve the symptoms...the numbness used to wake me up at night!!!
I turned down the offer of steroid injections...just didn't fancy them after reaserching about them online (as you do, LOL), as it said they don't always work, and elected to just use painkillers...my GP changed my perscription to diclofenac and co-codamol....and I was told to REST and not over-use my hands /arms...yeh,like you can go through daily life without using these limbs much...NOT!!! But I did my best!!!
Now almost nine years later, although I do get the occasional numbness/discomfort/pain, especially in my right (computer-mouse) hand...but nothing like it was, and no more night-time disturbances. Also I have been able to greatly reduce my painkiller use, down to 2-4 cocodamol/day, if/when I need them!!
So lemonade_lifestyle, I'm afraid that if like me, you forego any steroid injections, the route is pain-killers, REST....and plenty of TIME!!!
I wish you a speedy recovery!
