@Sarahsaver - Ground Coffee

    The difference between 'cafetiere' coffee and 'filter/percolator' coffee is the size of the grounds. Cafetiere grind is usually coarser, and filter is finer, as filter coffee is usually brewed through a paper or nylon filter, while cafetieres have a wire mesh, with bigger holes. Nothing terrible will happen if you don't use the 'correct' grind, but if you're using a finer grind in a cafetiere, you won't need to brew it for quite so long (and vice-versa with percolators). Whatever you do, though, don't use espresso or turkish grind, as this is so fine (almost powder) that it will clog the mechanism, and when you go to plunge it will splash back all over you; you'll also end up with a very bitter coffee with bits in!

    Thank you.

    FWIW, I use a small burr grinder (from Whittards) with a $tarbucks filter machine, and I buy beans from Monmouth or Union Roasters.

    How much did you pay for your grinder? The one I saw on Amazon was twenty quid. I dont want to buy it if its going to be a lemon though.

    Hardly moneysaving, but good coffee is my weakness!

    You cant compromise on some things. For me its parmasan cheese, and I always buy the best I can find. Infact I keep meaning to make a post about parmasan cheese as it costs a fortune from Morissons for their organic stuff.... very nice though.

  • Hey look at this coffee grinder/maker at Aldi this Thursday. Very tempting. Anyone know if its any good? Heres and excerpt:

    Unless it does espresso I'm not sure what you're getting for your money. Coffee grinder on its own is <£15, you can then brew the cofee in a cafetiere or stove top coffee pot (both cost <£5 and can normally be picked up at a charity shop or on freecycle)

    I guess if you drink a lot of coffee it might be worth having it kept warm for 2 hours but I generally make a pot, drink half, then pour the other half out and give in a quick blast in the microwave when I want it
