Here's a tip if you're looking to buy a CD that's been out for a while; try eBay.
Search for the name of the CD, then organise the results to show "auction only" and set a cap of £2-3. Then watch all of the results.
Chances are that you can pick up a CD for less than a quid if you're willing to wait a couple of weeks.
Also works for DVD's!
