5 years ago i had a default registered for a 7 yr loan I took out in 1999, paid for 2 years then asked for a reduce payment, eventually the company sent a guy round who looked at my income and expenditure and agreed a sum of £20 per month which I paid without fail. Then they kept writing to me to demanding I increased the payments to around £100, I wrote and told them i could not afford to, but the letters kept coming. Then I received solicitors letters demanding I pay in full. Like a fool I ignored them and carried on paying £20, in 2005 I sorted a DD instead of sending cheque each month. I am still paying this at £20, and they have frozen all interest. Will this default come off my credit record after 6 years (next september). In the meantime I have obtained a mortgage and a remortgage, both with sub prime lenders and still mainstream will not touch me, apart from this I have nothing else on my credit file. I have been paying a mortgage since 2005 and never missed a payment nor missed paying anything else everything is paid on time. I feel as if prime lenders will never touch me again. When I next remortgage I would like to borrow some extra and pay this default off, is it worth me appoaching the company to see how much they would accept as settlement? Will the default always show up even after 6 years if it is not satisfied.
