Forgot to pick up debit card receipt

I don't know where to post this, so I've chosen this board. I'm sure it will be moved to a more suitable board if there is one!

Last night, I went to Asda to pick up a couple of things. It was late about 11pm and I was rushing. I used the tills where you scan your own items and paid with my debit card. I was updating my shopping diary this morning and realised I left my receipt at the till. As I say I was rushing. And the Asda colleague manning the tills was watching me so I felt uncomfortable and wanted to be out asap. (why didn't they design those key pads to be more private?)

How unsafe is it to have left the receipt at the till? It will show the last four digits of my card as well as its expiry date. I check my account online every day but am still concerned.

I wouldn't worry - there's not much anyone can do without the whole card number........

Relax and enjoy your Christmas! :D

Shouldn't be a problem Jan. People need more than the last 4 digits to 'use' the card.
Just check your account as soon as you can.

Thats the one downside (i suppose) of being an obsessive compulsive receipt hoarder / spreadsheet / statement checker...if I don't have a receipt for something that appears on my statement I have to spend a few moments remembering where I made the purchase and why I didn't get a receipt. Usually only occurs at cashpoints when the receipt function isn't working.

Wouldn't worry about it though Jan, they'd need the whole number but as previous poster said, check your statements / balance over the next few days to re-assure yourself.

With the last four numbers it should be ok. BUT!!.... When I was doing my receipts this morning, I noticed that the receipt I had for Starbucks (dont worry I was buying vouchers as a xmas pressie!! - I wouldnt pay for coffee like that!!) it had my whole card number and expiry date on it, so be wary about your receipts from starbucks...

What you say is so true. I have spreadsheets on my computer. I write everything that I spend. Even a return fare into town on the Metro. I know every single penny I spend. I check my current account and cc balance online every day (the cc balance is because of fraudulent transactions last month). I'm becoming obsessive about it all but it makes me feel in control.

Thank you all for your comments. They put my mind at rest.

I was horrified when returning something to makro yesterday to see how they 'dispose' of some receipts. The assistant had made a mistake with refunding the customer and so had to issue another document. After the customer left a colleague helped the assistant with redoing the receipt and also stated ' and don't forget to throw this copy as it has the customers card details on it' - with which he screwed it up in a ball and threw it into the bin
I would've thought they would at least shred the document - and as it was crumpled up I can't even assure myself that it will be shredded later.

I wonder how many other companies don't take good enough precautions to protect our details?
