Is this unfair? Because it feels unfair.

Hi All,
I recently moved to London to start a new job as a manager of a little pub my boss has opened. I had my first day yesterday and when I looked at the rota I am shocked to learn I have to work 6 hours a day 7 days a week. Also, she has now told me my pay rate is just £6.00 an hour. In London!? For a Manager!?
Does it sound unfair to you?

It does sound rubbish however national minimum wage is £5.93 an hour and it meets this.
Sounds like some negotiation on your part is in order. Do you get accommodation thrown in?0 -
Yes but once you get your own bottles behind the bar and start to take your skin from the pub grub you will be laughing. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

So you moved to London to take a job that you didn't yet know the salary of?"Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0

It does seem fair since the employer seems to think you agreed to the wage, the hours over 7 days. So did you not know any of the details like pay etc before you accepted the job and moved.0

Fay……. I’m sorry to tell you this, but if you are working for £6 ph then you are not a manager.
I really don’t mean this to sound harsh, but it sounds like they has just given you a title because they want you to deal with all the day to day !!!! that comes with running a pub.
I’ve worked in pubs for 11 years and I have seen this happen a few times and most of the time people refuse to say anything about it because they are scared they will lose their jobs.
I have just left a pub where the “manager” was on £6 an hour and when it came to texting the staff about their hours, guess who covered her phone bills? When she went to the cash and carry to pick up stock, guess who paid for her petrol? I don’t think I need to answer that for you!
Again, I don’t mean to sound cruel, but I’m guessing you don’t have any previous experience at managing a pub? Because if you did, there is no way your employers would try this.
My advice is either, have a meeting with your boss and tell him if he wants you to be a “proper manager”, you want a decent wage, or ideally a salary (in Glasgow I think a manager of a pub expects around 18k, so in London, it will be a lot more), or get out NOW.
The longer you stay there on that money, the more he will think that he can treat you like a muppet!0 -
What terms and conditions did you agree before you moved?0

This.
Surely you would have discussed this before actually moving to London? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Pay doesn't sound like a manager's but you must have agreed this before you moved?!
As for the hours, those are quite common in pubs in London, but again did you not agree to this before moving?!
I would suggest that if you are not happy you negotiate with your boss but be prepared to be handed your P45. You might get lucky, you never know.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
not only is the wage poor for a manager in london but you arent even getting your weekly rest, you are entitled to an uninterupted break of 24hrs clear of work each week or 48hrs in a fortnight.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

check your contract (please don't say that yoU don't have one) to be working 48hours per week you must have signed n exception to the European Working Directive... some occupations are exempt from it (such as Doctors) but public house managers/ staff certainly aren't so you should not be working so many hours in a weekAll of my views are my own
