Hourly pay for hobby

Good afternoon everyone.
I am retired (aged 67). My hobby is building model ships. Theye are NOT kits and completely hand built. I sell them to earn a little extra cash. I am registered with HMRC and pay income tax on all my sales. I build about eight a year.
Until recently, I was getting much less than the average minimum wage for the UK, but with all this financial turmoil, I decided to put my hourly rate up to £10 an hour, expenses and delivery extra. Do you think I am being too greedy about this?
I see that as I am a new member, I can't put images on, so it is rather difficult to let you see what I produce, but if you look in my profile and contact details, my blog type website is there with plenty of pictures.
As the site is not offering any models for sale, I hope this is OK.
I am only trying to find out if £10 an hour plus expenses is reasonable for what I do.

The only real test is going to be to either a) try it or b) do some market research with the people that are likely to use the service.
It sounds like you are more selling a finished product (ie the ship) rather than a service (ie model building) and so it may be better to test would you pay £X for this model more than would you pay £10/hr + materials & delivery. I suspect unless people are into custom model building they may significantly under estimate the amount of effort required.0 -
THIS IS a DUPLICATE THREAD see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3339424=0

I don't really have any problem selling them. I was just asking if £10 an hour plus expenses was a reasonable price. After reading the above, I believe it is a bit low, if anything. You are quite correct, most people do not appreciate the effort that goes into them. When I am building to amuse myself, the work flows very smoothly. But when I have a private commission, it gets much more tedious, especially if I am building something that doesn't appeal to me!
If I write an article and it takes me six hours, I normally get between £160 and £200 for it, and I don't even have to worry about safe delivery of an article as I save them to disk before sending a copy!
I am now feeling less guilty about upping my prices.

jhp,
Yes it is a duplicate thread. This happened by accident as I am new to the site. I tried to erase the other one, but couldn't. But if you look at the other, I added a reply to the effect that I had duplicated it by accident.

Yes i saw that but try and keep it to one thread, or it gets confusing to readers.:D0

If Scottish Power can put their gas prices up by 19%, you can charge £10 an hour. Blame it on inflation.0
