Solar Panels

I have been thinking about putting solar panels on our bungalow.
I know that they can be used to heat the water or for electricity. Anybody out there using them for either purpose? Would you do it again? Is it worth doing in Northern Ireland? Is it really economical?
Any thoughts or recommendations on this would be appreciated.

neighbour of mine just had 20 panels installed and said they got a big discount and the company will buy any electricity they generate and don't use. not sure you'd get enough sun in N. Ire though (only joking my family still lives there and I am going back for a week in Aug and can't wait!!)
We don't get the feed in tariff like England so that wont apply here. You do get paid but nowhere near the amount. You can also get 20% grant for the installation but it’s a finite pot.0 -
I've got water heating panels, and I'd definitely recommend them (even in our climate - mine face west. Have you notices that the best sun has been in am recently!) It's great having hot water for showers, dishwashing etc without having to use the heating or immersion heater!0

I have the water heating panel which, on even a reasonably sunny day, will give us more than enough hot water for a family of 4. On a warm day the water is scorching hot.
We got a grant of £1100 when they were available and we ended up paying just about the same. Its a long term investment but it does really cut down on our oil consumption. It is a Schuco brand.0
