Advice regarding leaving a job??

I recently took a job as a finance administrator in a care home. I had never been in a care home before and was given a short tour of the facilities at interview. However, on commencement of the training for the job in the first week it became apparent there was more interaction with the clients than I had thought (the vast majority with dementia in 2 secured units). The care staff there did a brilliant job but the environment was not for me, residents in reception and the dining room becoming more and more confused and frustrated. In addition I was expected to go to the secured units for payroll information etc, all of which I felt very uncomfortable with. I know a lot of people will think I am soft but it distressed me so much I went home and cried after a couple of nights during that first week. My question is will I still be able to claim JSA contribution based, I had worked for my previous employer for 17 years before this job? Any advice will be gratefully recieved.:)

How long have you been doing it for?

I can understand your distress as it's not for everyone. Would it be possible to keep at it whilst looking for other work? A lot of the time you get desensitized after doing it for enough time and you work out a way of dealing with people that suits you (and them!). You're not going to feel comfortable straight away, especially as you're learning a new job too, it can be daunting.

I think you have to wait 3 months before you can claim if you quit your job.

I left my job around this time last year. I signed on straight away. I have to give details of why i had left. I received jsa for about 3 months before it was stopped as they didn't agree with the reasons i gave about leaving. I didn't pursue this and signed off but i could have questioned it. I am now employed again since march so only had 3 months without money but then again hubby supported me.

Have you spoken to your boss and told them that you don't feel comfortable and would prefer it if you didn't have to have so much interaction with the residents?
