New to Belfast

Options
Hi,
I am a 27 year old girl from London, just moved in with my boyfriend to Belfast. Has anyone any helpful recommendations on how to meet new people and maybe any evening classes I could do which would be fun but would also help me meet new people within the city?
Thanks. :-)

If only I could answer your question.... I have lived here my whole life and still find it tough in belfast! How about a gym? If you are inclined to classes, this appears to be a good way to meet people (albeit generally women).

How about you tell us your interests or what classes would interest you to help advise better?

I can recommend Belfast Met's wine tasting classes - get to meet a nice bunch of people and enjoy a drink too - everyone often moves to the pub after class too!

    Welcome to Belfast!

  • Hi ABC,

I'm also 27 and live in Belfast. What are your hobbies/interests? What area have you moved to? I've also just moved in with my boyfriend - feel free to PM me :)

Evening classes do not start until September or October. Queens university has quite a few good ones:

Also the FE colleges. Their courses start a little bit earlier than Queens - usually about start of September.

Many of the colleges, especially the FE colleges, will fill up their prospectuses with courses which will not run due to lack of numbers, so perhaps the more obscure courses should be avoided or left until near the closing date for applications before applying.
  • If you are at all sporty, then joining a local club, be it football, gaelic football, rugby, badminton, bowls whatever, then there are plenty of clubs to join, especially in Belfast. PM me if interested.

In terms of other things, you could sign up to classes at BMC or even keep an eye out on local shops windows for notes of things like tae kwon do classes or the like, as they can be great fo rmeeting new people.

Another thing that could be more up your street is to get involved with local charities or arts organisations, as they are always looking for volunteers and you can meet some really great people that way.

I think you have to put yourself out there, but do that and you'll be grand!
