Well were back, the church that was our 2nd choice more as it was more pretty outside for pics wont marry us unless we attend for 6 months then we can book a date which is no good as we want to marry august next year and need to confirm dates, was very orchward (sp) and asked way to many questions,so we went back to our first choice, lovely young vicar, didnt ask are we religious,do we attend blah blah we need to confirm date with tomorrow now we have had a think £100 deposit then ring venue and confirm with them.price was £593 for church  we said we was shocked,he took £100 of that and said he will see what else he can do,then he asked if he could say a prayer for us and the kids.how nice

glad you feel better about it hollie
i tried not to reply- but i couldnt.
maybe i have the wrong end of the stick- and im sorry if i do- but a couple of things you said got to me
you mentioned about the church being pretty outside and wanting you to attend for 6 months--- i think this is a reasonable request-- as i feel if you are getting married in a church it should be because you are religious and want to do it in the eyes of God. I am not religious- hence why I am having a civil cermoney. but i do get annoyed when people say its because its pretty, or 'how dare he ask we attend' etc etc
I think the other vicar should be aasking you about whether u attend a church etc-- as that (in my opinion) is why u shud be allowed to get marrie din a church

sorry i know its a bit of a rant- but its my sore point! and its not just aimed at you- anyone who says the same- i feel it too

It was more the fact that we couldnt book it till we had attended that for us is no good when we have just over 12 months till we get married, were quite happy to attend church it was the way he was quizing us that i felt uncomfy, felt like i was being interrorgated.my children are baptised catholic so going to church is not a problem for us like i say the 6month wait was.the church is very pretty outside so would have been lovely for pics, like i say we had 2 churches in mind but as the venue is stunning the photos outside the first choice we had would not be a problem, its all very annoying when its based on areas and whether u was christened/parents married there or u live in that area,we live literally 5 mins from the church but out of that specific area

Our church is £850 - your's is quite reasonable ...lol j/k- churches set the prices based on how old thir church is and also how many weddings they hold - i.e if they hold lots of weddings their prices are generally higher - as people are willing to pay it... the 'W' words doesn't half rake in a few people out to make a few ££ ... you'd think churches would be different wouldn't you ;)
  • Our church was £200 but we could have got away with a lot less!

There are plans being discussed by the chuches governing bodies to increase the fees...so potentially its good to book and secure a price now...
Vicars have a set amount that must be charged but there are things that they are able to not charge on,or at their discression...the prices are usually able to be slightly adjusted for regular church attenders, mainly because people like the organist may not charge as much playing for a friend rather than someone who is not a member of the parish.
I guess it all boils down to personal preference regarding the restrictions put in place by the vicar who wouldnt marry you until you have been attending for 6 months....im sure if it had meant that much to you to be married at a "pretty venue" where you had a good photo oppurtunity then you would have changed your plans.
frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

Like i say not to fussed on the church for pics as we have chosen a stunning venue,we had two churches in mind anyway just one had its own grounds.we do attend church so its not like we dont go its just we dont attend the church we want to be married in,ud be suprised at how many churches we have where i live.the vicar did say about all the new rules coming into effect but we can knock another £50 off for the organist as we have chosen 3 songs but only one would be played on the organ so pointless really.we dont want flowers in the church so more will be knocked off once the vicar gets back to us on that.
yes maybe he should ask questions but like i say we do attend church just not that specific one.its all sored now anyway and booked so im happy!
