what do I need to be proper OS?

I echo what's been said about attitude and humour - if you make it a game and an adventure, it will be more fun and will be interesting too.
I've always been a little OS, my Mum was a thrifty Scot from Dundee, where one of the family traditions was to cook an oatmeal pudding in with traditional mince. We all got a piece of it served up with the mince and tatties - made it go further and it was delicious! With some carrots and greens - mmmmm, I'm salivating! The low fat version would be a handful or two of oats.
So my recommendation is - use healthy fillers to stretch meals.
I'm so thankful I've found MSE - hoping the forum will encourage me while I adjust to a 40% drop in income (reduced hours due to health challenges) - thankfully no debts, but the mortgage must be paid....And the cat and dog fed!! Looking for a lodger for some tax free income.
All the best
Groatie QueenIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Vinegar as fabric softener? Doesn't it make the clothes smell, well, a bit vinegary?
Love the idea of using soda crystals for washing - I've always used them for getting tea stains out of mugs, but it seems there is more to it. I'm having an Aldi month to recover from Christmas, so I'm off to see how big a bag I can get for how little money.
I've just come to the OS board after my son gave me Martin's Thrifty Ways book for Christmas, and I must say I'm amazed at the inventiveness of some posters. :T
I think you could say that this little present has actually caused a lightbulb moment, so thanks Alex for buying it instead of chocolates, and thanks to everyone who contributed all these fab ideas in the first place! :beer:Oh dear, here we go again.0
