Answer a question about the first GSM network call. I think it was Ernie Wise of all people in 1985. Can anyone confirm?

Back in 1991 the first telephone call over a GSM network was made in Finland by the then Prime Minister,Harri Holkeri. It was over the Finnish network, Radiolinja, now Elisa. GSM was adopted by the EU in 1997 as the standard for the second generation in mobile telecommunications and has come on leaps and bounds since then and an industry that is worth billions of pounds.

You may well be right Miss Poppins, I don,t know whether Ernie Wise,s call was made over the GSM network or not, I just know he made the first mobile phone call. But as you got the info from the prize website, I would suggest that you are correct

I think they want the date, not just the year. It was 01/07/1991.
