What is this?

Ive seen a particular job advertised in a few places now and it says something that is confusing me "You will be working in the recruitment department which is a warm desk". The job is in the construction industry.

Now what does 'warm desk' mean? Simply that it would be hot working there :o I did a google but it didn't really help me just pulled up other jobs that said the same thing

Same as a hot desk I assume, which means you don't have your own desk

I assume that you will be using a desk and chair also used by someone else in another shift.

Similar to a "warm bed" ie a bed someone sleeps in during the day and then someone else sleeps in during the night - I think they used to have this on submarines as space was limited.

Yep, means you don't have your own desk. Say you do a 7am-3pm shift. When you leave at 3pm, the person on the next shift (say 3pm-11pm) takes over your desk, then the 11-7 night shift person takes it over at 11pm.

Though I wouldn't have thought a recruitment post would have been shift work. I would have thought it would be just normal office hours of 9-5?

    Thanks everyone :)

I can't see it being shift work either - its a full time role and it doesn't mention anything about shifts....At least I know now so I can actually apply for the job!

In that case, it might be something along the lines of an office with several desks, phones and computer terminals and you just grab whichever one is free. i.e you don't have a specific desk assigned to you.

Hi, AFAIK a 'warm desk' in the recruitment industry means that there are already clients and accounts set up and you will just take these over straight away and keep them running.

IE you will already have some knowledge of recruitment and the industry so would not require any training. You will probably also be required to add to these accounts if possible.

The 'desk' in this sense is not literally a desk but the accounts already associated with the position.
Sometimes it seems that just when I think I have reached rock bottom, someone hands me a shovel.

It's not the same as a 'hot desk'. As Wombles Forever said, in a sales role this means that there are already some clients/leads, so you don't have to start completely from scratch.
