We are on the lookout for a new sofa and having looked around we do like the Ikea ektorp leather one.
What are your experiences of Ikea sofas?
Are they well made and durable? ( one messy OH and a dog in the house!)
Thanks

We love ours, we've got the cotton ones and they wash up brilliantly and are comfy. we've had ours for 4 years and they are wearing really well, but they also came with a 10 year guarantee (not sure if they still do) so if they do get knackered not so worried.

We bought the klippan sofas in 1999 and they have been fabulous and in the past 12 years we've really given them heavy usage, we have replaced the covers at least once in that time but the frames are sound. We're buying the leather ektorp in the next few weeks and if they last as long as the klippans I'll be thrilled.
I know that's not really the answer you wanted but just wanted to let you know we've been pleased with ikea sofas before.:staradmin0 -
Thanks for the replies.
We are also looking at the Ektorp leather sofa ( need two actually!) I have read some awful reviews of other well known sofa retailers but not much from Ikea so your replies are encouraging.
I have heard about sofasofa but I really do prefer to try before I buy. Their showroom is in south Wales which is a long way away for me.
I feel a trip to Ikea coming on, even if only to do some more " groundwork".
Sofa buying is a real nightmare!0 -
I am sat on one now! I have 2, a 3 seater and a 2 seater. I have owned them for 4 years and have 6 young children, a dog and a husband. These sofas have been bounced, climbed and sprawled on constantly. The frame is still as sturdy as when I bought them. The cusions fully wash and tumble dry. (Well you pull out the sponge bit and wash and tumble dry the rest!) The fabric covers are washable.
I have replaced the covers on both twice. Once because a toddler had drawn all over them and the pen did not wash off and once becaus the covers were half price!
The sofa's are comfy and well made. My only complaint about them in general, is that although washable as the covers are so large the don't fit well in the washing machine and so no matter what I do they look creased when washed.
I had a red cord cover and that was great. Now discontinued. I had a black and white floral pattern and that washed better. I had a dark denim cover which had sort of white lines when washed, but wore very well. I now have matching red fabric covers and have just put them back on the sofas this evening. I am annoyed at how thay look after washing! Maybe thats me.:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0 -
Hi Wilroda
I bought two leather two seaters almost 7 years ago and would recommend them. They are comfortable, kid-proof (I've got two boys 13 & 9) and have kept their shape brilliantly. The only problem that i have is that my cats have used the back and sides as a scratching post
Also very good vaule for money and you don't have to wait for delivery. Go for it, you won't be disappointed. :T0 -
I'm also sitting on a corner suite now - I love it and have had it several years. I have just bought some Svanby Grey covers, that I think will look better than the other cotton ones after washing.
Great to chill out on watching the tele!0
