To Salus or not to Salus - mattress pondering

Firstly apologies for yet-another-mattress thread!

I was trying to establish if anyone on here would know the following.

Are Salus just re-branded Breasley mattresses?

I.e would a Salus Memory Pocket 1200+ most likely be a Breasley Flexicell Pocket 1200?

Or are these differently constructed? Some googling seems to imply Salus are manufactured in a different factory in Hyde (?) (source -> bedfed.org.uk/members.cfm)

There seems to be a significant price difference in these two, going by the 3 quotes I've had for the Salus from brick and mortar stores, vs the 200-300 pounds cheaper on-line for the Breasley Flexicells.

Any thoughts or insider knowledge into this specialist subject? :)

Salus are not a rebrand, it's no different from Silentnight group owning Layeezzee, Silentnight, Pocket Sprung bed company and Rest Assured.

Salus is made in a different factory and by different people. It's a separate company. You will not find the same spec as a Salus, similar maybe but not the same. As you said Salus are all about bricks and mortor stores, getting people in to try the product.

Thank you for your postings and info. As a lot of them out there, I have been searching for a mattress for months. I have read your postings several times. Gone through most brands and ruled them out. I am not a fan of foam.

I wanted a Firm latex double mattress with natural fillings. Because it was so hard to find, I decided on Total natural fillings and buying a latex topper. So started to search for those.

I just found Joseph Oracle Pocket Latex 1500 with 5cm latex with cotton and wool fillings and layers. £405 at Sleepland beds. Is it possible to get this spec at this price?

I am not confident of Millbrook specifications. Different sites give different spec for the same mattress. In the end found Millbrook Berkley 1700 in firm at Jone & Tomlin for £469. I am still not sure if I can trust the spec to be all natural – cotton, wool and silk. Ruled it out after reading negative reviews on Millbrook.

Checked up on The Velda latex Dreamer £479 at Velda beds. It has has two layers of 2.5cm of Latex on the top and bottom, pocket springs and the cover. Is that enough layers? Will it not be too thin?

Gone through The Origins Pocket Latex 1500 from factory beds direct. They 6cm latex but in two layers of 3cms each like a sandwich. They claim it is better than one layer of 6cm. I don't think it is right.

None of the above are in the shops to try. I do not believe any specs on the web. Shops recommend what they want to sell without knowing the spec themselves.

I have spoken to Joseph seller and Velda seller, they were supposed to call me back with info, but I have not heard from them. Left messages with factory beds direct, again not heard from them. Makes me think that they are not reliable.

Went to local family shop yesertday, they were keen to me sell Salus 1200, luckily I didn't buy.

Your advice will be much appreciated and so will lots of others in the same situation.
    Thank you

  • Hi Paddu, some if the options you mention are on my list too so disappointed to see no one replied.. what did you go for in the end?

A scoot around my local bed shops came up with two favourites.. both memory foam on top of pocket sprung (Kingsize). The Knolo Cloud 2000 from Bedshed @ £690 and the Salus 1500 @ £630 from a local independant. However I like the advise on the factory beds website and that's steered me towards latex, helped by memories of a Dunlopillo mattress I had years ago which was super comfy. So my shortlist is now:
Origins Pocket Latex 1500 - Factory beds direct - £670
Joseph Oracle Pocket Latex 1500 - various websites - £550ish
Dunlopillo entry level - various- £690ish

    Thoughts anyone?

  • Avoid Joseph like the plague, horrible nasty cheap beds.

Not heard or know anything about factory beds.

Dunlopillo have always been the best in the past for latex mattresses. As latex is the dearest filling on the market, it's never going to be a cheap purchase for a good one.
