Is this a slow cooker?

Hiya

Im pretty new to the boards, I bought the thrifty ways book and since reading that have been hooked. I only heard about slow cookers by reading these boards and remembered this that I got free with an order from a catalogue a while back.

It says on the instructions that its a electric crock pot with grill pan, is it a slow cooker?

I have been making lots of soups and stews recently in the oven but am always rushed in an afternoon as I have an 11 month old daughter. Would I be able to throw everything into this and leave it all day?

    yes it is

a crock pot is as far as I know the same as a slow cooker. think it's a more american term.

  • I have one of these, the temperature is variable, the top heat is quite high and simmers like a pan on the hob, on the low heat it works like a slowcooker but I suggest that for your own peace of mind you try it out on a day when you're home and make sure that it's temperature low enough for how long you need to leave it for.

Traditionally a crock pot has a removable ceramic crock and a slo-cooker is an all in one appliance, a bit like a deep fat fryer is. There havn't been all-in-one slo-cookers on the market for years and now both terms apply to slo-cookers with removable crocks. HTH

  • thanks!

I had intended to sell in on ebay but might give it a try as a slow cooker. Its not very deep, the pot part of it but would be perfect for me as my hubby thinks veg is a bad thing and probably wouldnt eat anything made in it
