being chased for a Store card debt from '94

I've just had a letter from a company called Creation Financial Services saying that I owe 735.69 and that this debt has been passed to Acquired Debt Limited. Acquired Debt Limited have instructed a company called Mackenzie Hall to collect the debt. They say they want payment within 7 days but when I called them they could not tell me what the store card was - just that the debt was from 1994.

I'm completely flummoxed - I don't recall ever defaulting on a store card and in 1994 I had a different surname, whereas these people say that the debt is in my name of Davis. I've moved bank since 94 so can't pull up records from then.

Any advice would be extremely welcome.

  • If it was 1994 the debt is statute barred anyway but it sounds like their chancers.. they've probably sent you a letter because you have the same name on the off chance that you'll either not look into it pay up for a debt that's not yours or actually be the person they're looking for.

    Paul_Davis,

I would definately not pay this. This debt is 12 years old and as stated is statute barred. Looks like they DCA is chancing their arm. I'd tell them to swing for it especially if your certain ther debt is not yours.

If they continue to chase you then there is a template letter somewhere on this site that will help you in getting further information on their claim that you owe monies. Not sure where it is but I'm sure someone with better knowledge then myself will be able to assist.

Definately do not pay this money.

    Have a good Christmas.
