No help with dementia from Barclays

Tomorrow, Friday, is the end of the second full working week since this thread became necessary. Last time I looked in, the news looked promising ... please tell us oldcarpenter that no further news is good news?0

Thank you peterbaker for your concern, if only Barclays would employ people like yourself and others who give help on this site as trouble shooters. The answer on any update from my last is nothing has happened, I spoke to Mrs H today, the man from head office has spoke to her twice, the last time a week ago he was going to send her instructions on what to do but she has not received anything. His main concern according to Mrs H was why and what was the money needed for. Barclays just do not get it, even the French Court saw this vulnerable lady needed immediate help, saw that Power of Attorney would take longer, be more expensive and needed two psychiatrists to be paid for and report on Peter, this would all take time and resources so gave the order to place her on her husbands account as joint. This would enable her to pay the aprox £10k hospital fees for Peter, start the complicated Power of Attorney process and pay for other household unpaid bills. I got the impression Barclays wanted a business type plan from Mrs H on how she was going to spend their own money, OMG! I will post another reply when I know what Barclays say this poor lady must do.0

I still say your best bet would be to have her and you in one place. As they are obviously either giving her the run around, or more likely- in her state- she is ranting and not getting her particulars across.
Good luck though. I fear she will be in dire straights before this is straightened out but hope not.0 -
Atush; you are right regarding us both being in the same place, my offer to bring Mrs H over and sort it out here was firmly rejected by her twice. One might say this was not a rational decision but anyone must appreciate her argument, she wants to be on call should her husband suddenly need her, and she cannot see why this can not be sorted out at the branch of Barclays in Cannes. To suggest it is more likely her ranting may be a reason Barclays do not fully understand her problems or situation are wrong. This lady even under all the pressure she is under would never “rant” at anybody.0

By ranting I really mean crying and perhaps waffling on. She is probably not getting her points across due to her age and circumstances.
Could you go down there and then call barclays for her and chivvy them on? If you are in the same room and she speaks to them to give permission, then they will deal with you. I do this all the time for others.
Good luck.0 -
Update. Mrs H received a ‘with complements slip’ yesterday requesting her husbands sort code and account number to be posted back. The letter also enclosed the court order and the court doctors’ report she had sent about three weeks ago. This I find unbelievable, firstly have they taken copies and started processing the court order or not. Giving no details only adds to the stress and worry. Secondly, he worked at Barclays for over 40 years, he banked at the same branch for over 20 years and had his pension paid in that branch for over 10 years, just how many customers with his name and address bank with Barclays at that branch, how many clicks of a mouse would it take to find his account number?0

I guess they just need proof.
A call to the barclays person who was referenced in post 13 should be the one called about if they have copied the court papers etc.0 -
I apologize for using this site for what has now become my personal crusade with Barclays. Because of total incompetence and couldn’t care less attitude, this lady is at breaking point tonight. Head office became involved and what a waste of time that was. The complaint I never made was looked into and Mrs H received the answer today and lists many legal procedures she must do which ends up with some EU law being compatible with British law and Barclays saying you should take legal advice. It cost £1,200 just to get the court order which she can not pay yet. In the same letter it states “you sent the court order to our legal department but they never received it”. It was one week ago the legal people sent it back saying to foreword the account number and sort code and she believed it was being processed. How can these bankers sleep at night? I know Mrs H will not tonight.0

Sorry to hear this. Maybe you need to fly down if she won't leave? Can you get a POA for her to bring with you for her to sign?
Have you spoken to the person in post 13 by phone?
Did you ever write to the braodsheet newspapers like I mentionned?0 -
Call the BBC tomorrow and get all this told to Radio 4's "MONEYBOX", I remember having to sort through my fathers affairs (as he has Alzheimers) and I had a terrible time with his bank...which happened to be Barclays! so I am not at all surprised with your problems.
I went to my fathers branch (of 40+ years) to show them the POA p/w ( which was hard enough for me to see him sign) so that I could operate his account, after waiting for more than an hour to see his "account manager" I was taken aback by a "schoolgirl" laughingly suggesting that i use my fathers ATM card to access his money from his account "Lets face it ..he won't realise, he's unzipped now" was told.
I stormed out of the branch and complained to head office .......4 years later I am still awaiting a reply!
I put the original matter in the hands of the solicitor and even he had a struggle to get things sorted.0
