Unless I've missed it, I don't think the OP has answered my question regarding what geographic area her son's looking at. It would be useful to know.0

Not being mean, but what was his 'realistic' aspiration for a career, rather than getting into TV or creating web sites?
Not being funny, but there are rather a lot of people working in TV and new media, you may have noticed all those programmes, films, radio stations and web content, or the fact that you typed that message on a hugely popular web forum...0 -

I have a brother who designed webpages and I know that *his* standards were the least of it when it came to doing what the client wanted.0 -
Rather than looking closer to home - he should try looking further afield.
I know that Ember Television in Birmingham are expanding and looking for staff (https://www.embertelevision.co.uk):
Ember are currently expanding.
If you are an experienced freelance camera operator and/or editor and are interested in working with Ember Television, please send a CV and showreel to careers@embertelevision.co.uk
If you are looking for an internship, we offer a 6 week placement scheme in either the creative or marketing departments. If you would like to apply, please send a CV and covering letter to careers@embertelevision.co.uk. Please note, the scheme is highly competitive, especially for the creative department, so links to examples of previous film/editing work are advantageous.
Rather than waiting for advertisements to appear, perhaps your son should be writing to TV companies on the offchance that something is available. Even if there is nothing suitable at Ember - he could always introduce himself and maybe volunteer for them and that way he will be at the forefront of their minds when a suitable job comes up.
There is a video production company that I know - they film all over the world for clients who are based in Alcester, Warwickshire. They have no vacancies listed on their website, however, it may be worth contacting them on the offchance (I do know they have a fair bit of work on at the moment). https://www.avi.co.uk
With regard to the mobile phone sales rep job - the term field and office based should have given him a clue - field generally means pounding the streets.0 -
Oldernotwiser - ideally they would like to work in Cardiff as they have a flat there and DS's GF has a job there. However they are aware that they may both need to travel for work and use Cardiff as a home base between contracts.
Emmzi - Going abroad may be a solution, but they would prefer to stay here if possible and only go abroad if they really can't find work here.
3v3 - You are quite right. This was a website that he inherited a basic form of from a member of the society and all he has been able to do is improve and extend it. It can be quite frustrating when people are against change.
Horace - many thanks for the links and suggestions. I have passed them all on to DS and will let you know if he has any luck. Regarding the mobile phone job - you are right, experienced job hunters would have recognised the ad for what it is, however I don't think he has learned the 'code' of job ads yet. He knows now though!Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
Jenny, what contact do they have with the university careers service?Debt free 4th April 2007.

well, the Uni are the one with experience in placing people who have passed their courses.
So I'd be talking to them every month and checking their leads and contacts and website a lot more often than that.Debt free 4th April 2007.
