Hello. I dont know where to post this so please place where appropriate.
I was in Tesco today & I have seen these new Laptops by Iqon who have teamed up with Philips to create these ultra compact 12" laptops.
This style of Laptop by Philips retails for between £650 - £900 but in Tesco it has a model on display for appx £430.
Blighmy I thought but I noticed a small tag saying NOF. I asked a member of staff what it meant & was told it meant Not On File & they couldnt sell this item.I have seen this laptop on display for about 2 weeks but this was the 1st time I asked questions.
Why is it they can have this model on display with price but they wont sell it.Surely this is breaking some kind of guide line.

They're are right in the fact that they can't sell a not on file as something that is not on file doesn't link up on the system therefore doesn't have a price. The process is for the department (hardware in this case) to scan the item on a checkout everyday until head office do something about it and one day it works! Once that has happened then the item can be sold but will have a funny looking label usually. There's still no record on the system so once they're sold that's usually it. So I'd assume that they have done all that as there's a price, in which case I'd assume they'd sell it to you.
In regards to displaying it and not selling it, there's not alot anyone can do about it, as a retailer they have a right to choose whether to sell it to you or not, so they could choose not to sell it to you or anyone for that matter, but they wouldn't be doing themselves any favours as they'd get quite a few complaints if people wanted to buy it. Trading standards would probably suggest that they either sell it or remove it from the shelves but I don't think they'd have done anything wrong in the eyes of the law!0 -
I agree with what your saying, its just all a bit weird. I was told that they wouldnt sell it to me even though it has a price etc, so why advertise it.Why not remove the price & say display only or something.I often hear other people being told similar in this Tesco store0
