Porting Natwest Mortgage to Northern Ireland

Has anyone ever successfully ported a Natwest mortgage from England to Northern Ireland?
Natwest is part of the RBS group and the equivalent in Northern Ireland is the Ulster Bank.
I am 2 yrs into a 3 yr fixed mortgage and if I end it now I will have to pay £5k in early redemption charges.
I have a sale going through on my house in England and a house in N Ireland that I am buying.
Anyone have any tips on how to get a quick (ideally 'yes') answer from Natwest about me being allowed to port my mortgage? I called before and got a 'no', but the person telling me it didn't sound very convincing.
(I don't want to sign up for a new mortgage only to find I have ended my old one unnecessarily. And I don't want to apply to port my Natwest mortgage if it's going to be a waste of time and hold up the house moving process.)
Thanks
