This may sound silly but how do I whip double cream? Do I add sugar?

You can just whisk it or you can add a little sugar, too. Don't over-whip it or you'll end up with butter, though.

Just whip up and serve. My Mum and Gran used to add sugar to that thick tinned cream you used to be able to buy ... made it all crunchy when they used granualated sugar. Haven't seen that tinned cream for years, though I suspect you can still get it.Enjoying an MSE OS life

Make sure its normal double cream tho, the extra thick double cream doesnt whip up well at all!!!!0

When I was a confectioner at a bakery we used to whip up half whipping cream and half double cream - no sugar added - this was a great consistency to fill the cream cakes(yummy!) you just need to keep a close eye on it so it doesnt overwhip and turn cheesy!;)Do what you love :happyhear0

Can I use single cream. The milkman has got it wrong and delivered single instead of double or does it mean a trip to the shop.Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

I don't think you'll get single cream to the consistency you want - it's more for pouring. As to sugar, I like it plain but if you have a very sweet tooth you might like to add half a teaspoon of caster sugar.0

Single cream will not whip I'm afraid
