Postal, Text and Phone Competitions - Part 14

Hi, complete novice at postal competitions and apologies if this has been asked a million times, but i've read through reams of pages and can't see the answer anywhere.
I've got lots of A4 card to cut up that is brightly patterned on one side and white on the other. Postcards are not something I've sent or received since I was a child, so I'm not sure how they "work". Do I need to print a sticker for the coloured side for the postal address and stamp, or am I okay to put the postal address and stamp plus my answer and details (sideways as per the FAQ) on the one (white) side?
Also, if I cut my A4 into 4 pieces, each one is bigger than a standard envelope - is this likely to be a problem? Is there a set size for postcards?
Feel stupid even asking, but don't want to waste my stamps if I'm doing it completely wrong
Thanks
Joey
