Amazing Bargains At Waitrose

Most people are aware that Waitrose reduce the price of stock when near to sell by date but I have discovered that you can save much more if the goods are reduced when more than one are purchased.

I bought two packs of ready shelled peas reduced from £1.49 to 49p but they were on offer normally at £2.20 for 2 (a saving of 78p) and it seems that the tills in Waitrose will give you the saving even if the items are reduced. So I paid 98p (49px2) less 78p = 20p for items which would have cost £2.98 (£1.49x2) - a saving of 93%.

I have also bought packed sausages which would cost £6.00 for two packs with a £1.50 saving whic cost 49p per pack and thus Waitrose actually paid me 52p to take the stock.

I have found similar examples in fruit and cheese so keep your eyes open!

Same glitch in Homebase and B&Q - been that way for a couple of years. They don't seem bothered, they certainly know about it.

They always take off the normal amount when things are on 2 for something offers, even if they are reduced--
the best one I had was when I got PAID 18p to buy bread!

They corrected that glitch now with reduced bread, and if you have 4 for 3 breads, it takes off the reduced price....

and you can check when the bread is reduced (before the stickers go up) by typing in one of the pastries into the self-service weighing thing that prints labels. If the SA has rung the reductions through, they appear electronically way before they put up the stickers.

The multi-buy savings used to kick in at Tesco on reduced to sell fresh items years ago but sadly they eventually caught on and stopped it. I had many shopping trips where I bought perishables like bread and got more back on the multi-buy than the products actually cost.
I still look at the reduced section but it amazes me how often the "reduced" price is a higher unit cost than if you bought the offer and got the multi-buy discount
To anyone that tells you "There is no I in team" say no there isn't
But there ARE TWO I'S IN COMMISSION and I dont get paid "Team"

  • Tesco used to do this untill they realised. i saw a woman go through the till with a trolly load of reduced burgers and a trolly full of beer... the burgers were reduced from just over £3 to 59p but they were originally on offer on BOGOF the till just deducted £3 odd for each two packs and so she was making her £2.50 proffit... ended up that her beer and burgers cost £11 and believe me the beer trolly was pretty full and she had cleared all of the burgers. they stopped serving people and called for management as they thought it was a serious error on the tills. in my tescos the week after it stopped working on all reductions and the staff started manually entering prices of reduced goods untill all tescos got it sorted. :( x
