    Hey up

Yes, I had an overdraft in excess of 2K to Barclays. I opened an Abbey, Lloyds, Coop Cashminder and Nationwide Flex Account. I went mad and applied for loads so I had at least one to use. I then found out that the account must not have an association with my creditors so I use Coop and Nationwide. Keep asking!

  • hubby is lloyds, had that account since he joined up, owes loan, over draft and credit card with lloyds quite a bit, we are dmp with cccs, well starting when we get a different bank account and he sorts it out with work to get his wage in that account

he keeps telling me he needs a cheque book for when he deploys which is soon, the bank account that you use do you get a cheque book?

i have lots more questions but battery going on laptop so will be back later, i will write it all down on pen and paper first.

did you get a new bank account before sending token payments, has you know its pay day soon, i have said take all his pay out of lloyds put it in my bank account just this once, send token payments and then the following month he should have a bank account and informed work about it so his next wage in january will be in his bank account....does you think this is a good idea to do this?

how did you go on about all of this?

if he doesnt take his wage out from lloyds we are left with nothing has lloyds will take most of it.
  • we just dont know what to do at all, sometimes i think we would be better off doing what i have just said in the previous post or waiting till he gets a bank account and then wages in this new account.

    very confused wife/lady

Yes, rightly or wrongly that's what I did. I transferred my wages to my new account and notified the pay office of the new bank details and made token payments to creditors. If he is deploying on a ship ( which I'm right in thinking), they do cheque cashing which unless he hasnt got a visa card or visa debit card this will be the only way to obtain sterling or foreign currency. So this is quite important because he will need sterling and foreign currency. I would imagine that this is something that you're not keen to communicate to his superiors? Because if he hasnt got that cheque book and debit card he will have no means of drawing money. Even if you provide him with several signed blank cheques he may have to notify the cash office or boss that this is the case. He would not be able to cash a cheque for sterling for say £1000 because that is far too much to be leaving in a locker (theft etc) and if he is visiting different countries he will different cheques for the different currency he will be using in the different ports. The coop cashminder provides a visa electron debit card but no cheque book and neither does the flex account. Have you seem the association with creditors thread? Here it is: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=180121 I would apply for a new bank account sooner rather than later because as you enter your DMP, your credit rating may be eaffected which could affect any applications for a new bank account. I work in the personnel area and if you like, you may PM me if you want more specific advice.

  • I have started work full time, which we no longer will be going on a dmp, my wage is going to be paying the debt off and our calculations we will be debt free in 3 years.
