Tax code is 705L Mth 1 - what does that mean ?

That makes all the difference. The Mth1 is a non-cumulative code which takes no account of any tax payments before this so no overpayment will be refunded.

I would suggest you get back onto HMRC and ask them why they have issued a Mth1 tax code.

Make sure you have with you your latest payslip and provide them with the total gross pay year to date, and the total tax paid year to date.

Any adviser who follows the call type process to the letter cannot issue a cumulative code without these details.

Those of us who know what questions to ask without being told how to do our jobs by a written call type process that has been written by someone who has not one ounce of tax knowledge wou simply ask the ight questions to ascertain the codes that have been in operation since 6 April and issue the !!! code regardless.
[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
