Age Gap

Hi, new to this but I can see everyone has lots of useful advise so here goes...

My husband and I want to buy a new house and need a new mortgage in order to do so. Problem is he's 15yrs older than me.

With the amount we want to borrow (approx £200k) the repayments wo uld be tight if we continued over the existing term of our current mortgage. I suggested extending the term but they won't because my husband is already 51.

I have a further 29 yrs of work ahead of me and if I was on my own they'd allow me to take out a 25yr mortgage but as my husband is older, they won't. Doesn't seem right.

I know we can't get separate mortgages on the same house, but are there any other options?

Thanks.

yes, it seems right...as you are taking out a joint mortgage.

That said, a lot of people take mortgages past normal retirement age, but i guess you would have to prove an income/meet affordability criteria.
