in Cutting tax
Hi. i desperately need help.
In May 2010 HMRC wrote to me to let me know i had paid £2100 too much vat and they would refund it to me. I rang them and queried it as i thought it would come back to haunt me. They said on the phone no you definiately have paid too much. silly me went and spent it on paying off business loans etc. They then said you knkow what you owe us it and we want it now. I then paid up but since then it's left me struggling to pay each VAT bill on time and in full. As a result i get charge after charge. In december with the bad weather i had to shut my business for 2 weeks losing me thousands of £. This resulted in me owing money to creditors and HMRC. I made a payment plan but because of struggles all over couldn't meet it. I have now made an appeal to HMRC to try and reclaim charges but had a call today saying they are going to try and bankrupt me. 3 weeks ago i made a payment of £1200 then another 2 payments of £600 which would have made the total i owe them £4900. They have told me today i owe £6880 due to extra fines they have put on. I can't go on like this and don't know what to do. The way i see it, it's their fault, i'm desperately trying to pay and am an honest hardworking tax payer but i can't see a light at the end of the tunnel. I have now had to go and get a part time job so i don't take wages out of my business. Is there any legal help advice out there? please i'm desperate.
