'Is the debt legal' letter

Hi all,
First off, just found this forum, have lots of debt, so expect to be posting quite a bit in the near future!!!
Greetings to everyone.
Ive just been reading a post (here) about an old debt, and one piece of advice given is to write to the debt company and ask for a copy of the relevant documents showing the debt exits and is owed by you etc etc.
Now, Ive just had an old debt come up (not more than 6 years old though, Im sad to say) so I thought I would write this letter as stated - but then it occurred to me, how do I know that any of my other debts are 100% backed up by the correct paperwork?
So the long and the short of it is, im thinking about sending a letter to all of my debts, but am I allowed to do that?
Im thinking that as Ive been paying them back on a DIY DMP, have I therefore accepted ownership and cant now question them?
Also, (if anyone knows) can you question all such debts. I mean, I can see where a HP debt for example has the relevant HP contract signed by me, but what about my OD bank account and the like - what paperwork would they be expected to produce to show this debt is legal etc.
Thanks for any advice and all the best

You can always ask for a copy of your original signed contract and deed of assignment if there is one.
These are to be provided by law under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
If the DCA or Creditor can not provide this documentation then they are unable to pursue you for the debt in a court of law until the time they do actually produce the documents. That is of course if they ever find the documents.
You are entitled to ask for this information at anytime. It does not matter if you have been making repayments to your debt.
Hope that clarifies things for you. If you want the template letter, I will be happy to post it here for you.0 -

Theres a copy of the relevant letter in an earlier thread, so ill print that off.
Ill have to see how I get on.
