I'm with E.on and they processed my application form within a week and they have paid out my FiTs within 2 weeks of receiving the meter readings.

Yes, you can have one supplier and your fit payments from another.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
British Gas took two months to do nothing with mine and only sorted it after I called a few times - seemed like if you called they pulled you out of the queue - hate to think how long you would wait if you didn't hassle them!

E.on have just changed their FiT payment time-scales to "within 30 days" of receipt of the meter reading. Apparently this is due to an increase in FiT registrations but I'm not convinced. It's more likely that they have just reduced their number of BACS payment runs to monthly.

I was told by edf that they have a big backlog, but have, after a month, started processing my application for the FIT. They think by the time it's processed the meter reading won't be requested until sometime in September and they say they're allowed up to 90 days after the reading to pay out. They intend to pay far quicker than the 90 days, but told me they're under no obligation to do so.

It looks like a perfect Christmas savings plan to me and couldn't come at a better time!
