For those of you who don't know, Glasgow's old Transport Museum - along with the Tall Ship - has been improved and relocated to its new location on the north bank of the Clyde, not too far from its original location near Kelvin Hall.
It opened last week. We took the kids to see it this afternoon. It is totally brilliant. All the old exhibits are there: the old and vintage cars, bicycles, motor bikes, vans, trams, trains, and of course ships and boats, etc. etc. but it all seems just a bit more interwoven with the fabric of Scottish society from the industrial revolution onwards. There's now clothing, tools, items such as prams, radiograms, gadgets etc. The shipbuilding industry exhibits are a real eye opener for today's youngsters who don't realise that this was the industry that helped forged our great city.
The new location right on the river means that there are great views from the windows which all seem in keeping with the subject matter.
The faciltiies, catering, and gift shop are all pretty good, IMO.
And, entry to the musem is completely FREE! (Entry to the Tall Ship, moored alongside) is £5 per adult with a free child per adult.)
Having only been open a week, and with the school holidays just started, it was of course quite busy but perfectly acceptable. I just about managed to get a parking space at 1pm today (£1 for 3 hours.) and they advise to use the Kelvin Hall car park as an overflow. It's only a short walk from Kelvin Hall subway though, and there is a bus service 100 that stops right outside.
What a brilliant morning or afternoon - even a whole day - out. All you money saving experts looking for something to do with the kids this school holiday - get yourself there - you won't regret it.

went along today, a bit busy but they have made the old street bigger and better, my favourite triumph herald has her own room now
definately more to look at than the old museum, just one complaint i heard from another visitor and i kind of agreed with, the wall of cars and motorbikes, which means you cant really see them as well as you used to be able to at the old location0 -
If you are coming from the Southside the ferry at Govan is a great option.........kids will love it.0

We went yesterday and loved it - were there just before 12 and got parked no problem - It was a beautiful day for it and the views of the blue skies from all the windows was stunning!
Would recommend it - the moving conveyor of ships was our favorite - we had heard a few folk complaining about the wall of bikes and cars etc - but the interactive displays below them are ideal! No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:
Officially Mortgage free 31/07/2017 , 12 years early :j0 -
And another thumbs up from me. A great day out - and for younger kids they have an "enormous" sand pit (about tennis court size) at the front of the museum. The kids loved it. The sand is all enclosed and very clean with lots of buckets and spades etc to play with. Also a little pond with mini boats on (just for toddler size). The cafeteria was very busy - so if it is a nice day bring sandwiches, plenty places to picnic outside.0
